Here’s To A Narcissist Free New Year

Narcissists appear to be  Here, There, And Everywhere these days. Sometimes it seems like there’s an epidemic of narcissistic personality disordered people. It’s sad but true. They are people who think that the world revolves around them. They are attention seekers. They are guys and girls who are just like Narcissus in Greek mythology, who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water.

Well, they have a right to be all about themselves if they choose to be, but unfortunately, that is also often accompanied by them thinking that they have the right to be treated like they’re special.

This seems to lead them to believe:

  • They should receive attention and admiration at all times, from all people.
  • That they are entitled to do or say anything they want with no consequences.
  • That they have the right to mistreat everyone around them.

Many appear to move from relationship to relationship to feed their ego. They love receiving admiration and attention from a multitude of people who seem to worship and desire them and their attention, which they often give and take away on a whim. Some people are very impressed by them and love to be around them, while others flee the drama to a calmer zone.

Narcissists are also often the people who love to use social media posts like Facebook and Twitter, and real life scenarios to make those who love them jealous of their interactions with others. It seems to provide the attention that they crave. Narcissism is a well documented personality disorder with underlying causes and it should be treated by a qualified medical professional.

According to Mayo Clinic a narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with narcissistic personality disorders believe that they’re superior to others and have little regard for other people’s feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Sadly, they often leave a trail of broken hearts and shatter the lives of people who sought only to be close to them, while they simply wanted nothing but continuous attention. Day after day it seems that their game continues and goes on and on and on … Too often at the expense of other people’s feelings. Relationships with narcissists are generally all about them and their wants and needs. They often leave their partners and friends wondering what they did wrong to make them not like them anymore, or if they were just an unlucky participant in a cruel game.

If you’ve been involved with a narcissist you may be feeling like you’re on an emotional roller coaster ride and should not hesitate to seek professional counseling.

So, here’s to a Narcissist Free New Year filled with serenity, prosperity, peace, love and joy.

Until next time, have a warm heart but be COOL! Be happy, be well, and be the best you that you can be!

So This Is Christmas…

photo(154)Holidays have a unique way of bringing out the best and the worst in some people – especially Christmas. Someday this Christmas will be a memory – so I hope you do your best to make it a good one!

Christmas comes with so many opportunities to make special memories, to sing special songs, to write special stories, and to take special pictures to capture some of those special memories. The wonderful picture I’ve added to this post is an actual picture of Santa and his reindeer that members of my family put up every year suspended in midair by wires between two houses. As you can see in the picture it is indeed a magical and memorable holiday display.  I added the song lyrics  “So This Is Christmas” because this holiday tradition is representative of the types of holiday traditions that make the special holiday memories that I hope you will all make for yourselves, and your families and friends this year.

I confess I am a big fan of Christmas songs in all styles and eras and I have many, many memories connected to many, many wonderful holiday songs.  I start playing them right after Halloween and play them through New Years Day. As a matter of fact sometimes I play some of my favorites randomly at other times of the year.  One of my all time favorites is “So This Is Christmas” by John Lennon.

So this is Christmas, And what have you done,
Another year over, And a new one just begun.

And so this is Christmas, I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones, The old and the young.

A very merry Christmas, And a happy New Year,
Let’s hope it’s a good one, Without any fear…

My wish for each and every one of you is that you make wonderful, special holiday memories this year and every year to carry with you now and always!

Happy New Year – Show Us How You Can Shine

This year shake off all the dust from the negative things that happened in your past and show the world the light that’s shines from within you… Let it shine!

Excerpt –

“A little dust could never permanently dull the shine of a
genuine diamond…”

“OK Mom. That’s cool.”

“Yes, cool, we’ll always be cool, Julietta and Sienna
Christopher. Remember what I taught you when
you were little, nothing can keep us down, we’re the
Christopher girls; we sparkle and shine even in darkness.”

“Sure Mom, but I’ve always wondered when you say
that, exactly how do you sparkle in the dark?”

“The sparkle doesn’t disappear just because the light
dims Sienna. It’s always there just waiting to become
visible when the light hits it again.”

Authors Have Unique Holiday Opportunities

At this time of year when so many of us are thinking about what we want for Christmas and what we want to give to others, we as authors have a unique opportunity.  Most of us love to share our gifts when we write our books and stories and blog posts.  We share our knowledge,  our thoughts and our ideas and many authors publish and share free Kindle versions of books.

I recently participated in a Gathering of Authors event at a local  library and at that time the thought crossed my mind that it would be nice if the library added a copy of my current book to their contemporary fiction section.  It was a fleeting thought then;  but today it returned and I decided that I could make that happen.  I decided that I would give a copy of my book to several of the library branches in neighboring communities as part of my holiday journey this year.

A few years ago I heard the song Words Are Your Wheels written by Phil Vassar and Julie Wood,  and performed by Phil Vassar and friends – Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, and Sara Evans.  It’s a “Song To Promote Literacy.  The lyrics are all about journeys that readers can take.

“Words are your wheels
To take you anywhere you feel…
Your mind is an automobile
And words are your wheels…”

At this time of the year when we focus so much on gifts and giving, we as authors, have a unique opportunity to help readers take journeys by sharing our work, if we are able to, by donating a few copies of our books to the local libraries.

I Wish you all a Happy Holiday Season and Wonderful Journeys!

Is It Your WOW Time? What? When? Where? Why? How?

photo(129)WOW Time – What – Where – When – Why – How?

Life is filled with questions that start with what, where, when, why and how. For example – what do I want out of life, where am I going, or when will my life change, or why should I do that, and how do I move forward. Wow, those are some big questions. What are your What, Where, When, Why, and How questions that you should ask yourself?

A person can learn a lot by asking themselves this series of questions often. I use them to find out what exactly is going on in my own head. If you’re trying to make decisions, or trying to accomplish a certain task or goal,  you can list them and answer them after giving consideration to the possible answers.  Is it your WOW time?  Is it your  time to say WOW I have to figure some things out and ask myself some questions, and the time to say WOW I had the answers I needed all along – I just didn’t ever bother to ask myself the questions.

• What do I want or need (to do or to accomplish or to not do or…?
• Where should I go for help, or to get started or for answers or…?
• When is the best time, or the right time or….?
• Why do I want to do this or that, or need to or do this or that or…?
• How do I move forward, or backward, or over or under or this way or that way to reach my goal?
• W-W-W-W-OW…

I’ve learned as a writer that life is all about questions, and the answers to questions, and finding out how to make the answers more easily recognized. These questions and their answers may help you visualize the pictures and the questions that are in your mind. and sometimes can help you put order into your thoughts and actions. Now it’s not a magic formula. It’s only a tool to help you get in touch with your own goals and aspirations. There are no magic formulas – only questions and answers – life is always about questions and answers, and trying to find your paths to follow. It’s about your own WOW time and your self-motivation and your honest answers to your own questions from you to you!

Is it your WOW Time?
