Zen Proverbs – Journeys & Paths … Get Your Zen On…

Life Is A Journey

“Life is a journey with no guarantees, no absolutes, no sure things, and no perfection; but it does have opportunities and choices. Its path leads through good relationships, bad relationships, pain and joy. There is no guarantee you will not experience pain by hiding from all that life has to offer because life’s journey has no guarantees. Those with adventurous spirits will choose to push through the obstacles on the journey – realizing that they are part of the journey. While those ruled by fear will make excuses to allow the obstacles to end their quest. Each of us must choose whether to be defeated by obstacles or to continue on, always moving toward their destination – their very own personal version of Happily Ever After.”

The Obstacle Is The Path

There is a well known Zen Proverb that states “The Obstacle is the Path”. That can be a little confusing when you first read it; but after dwelling on it I realized that the path you take to go over or around or under or through an obstacle is still part of the path. Life’s journey and paths sometimes include obstacles but that doesn’t mean you can’t reach your goals and your destinations.

Zen Proverbs

Zen Proverbs are very thought provoking and for that reason some people completely ignore them, but they do generally have powerful messages when you take the time to think them through. So – when you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed by obstacles perhaps it’s a good time to read a few Zen Proverbs or the A to Zen of Life by the Dalai Lama.

Here are a few other Zen Proverbs  I have found helpful.

•Be master of mind rather than mastered by mind.

•From the withered tree, a flower blooms.

•It takes a wise man to learn from his mistakes, but an even wiser man to learn from others.

•No snowflake ever falls in the wrong place.

•Sit, walk, or run, but don’t wobble.

•To know and not do is not yet to know.

•If the problem has a solution, worrying is pointless, in the end the problem will be solved. If the problem has no solution, there is no reason to worry, because it can’t be solved.

•Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought.

•To follow the path, look to the master, follow the master, walk with the master, see through the master, become the master.

•A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Lao Tzu.

So if you’re having trouble finding your Path or you are encountering Obstacles on it –

This Weeks Word To Ponder Is Perfection…

PERFECT? Are you PERFECTLY PERFECT? I sure hope not! PERFECTION can be so boring! How truly boring the world would be if everyone and everything was perfect. I think that everyone is less than perfect because I subscribe to the theory that there is truly no such thing as true Perfection.  So just be the best you that you can be, and do the best that you can do and you will be an awesome imperfect YOU!

“I’m not PERFECT!
But I am PERFECTLY Free
to be UNIQUELY ME!”

Very early in my writing career I decided with very little difficulty what I’d use as my tag line because I knew why I wanted to write. I aspired to inspire people to improve and enhance their lives. So, it was logical that my tag line would read “I Aspire To Inspire”. I wanted to make a difference with my writing, whether it was fiction or non-fiction because it was clear that there were many unhappy, confused people in the world who could benefit from a little inspiration.  With that in mind I’ve added a new feature to my blog – Wickedly Wise Inspiration Cards.

I’ll be adding a new card every week and I’d love to send them to you to add a little inspiration to your week.  If the idea of receiving a little inspiration at an unexpected moment sounds good to you sign up for my Karma Buzz Newsletter.  Or check back often if you need a little inspiration.

PERFECT? Are You Perfectly Perfect? I Sure Hope Not! Perfection Can Be So Boring!

PERFECT? Are you PERFECTLY PERFECT? I sure hope not! Perfection can be so boring. You may be wondering why anyone would think that being perfect in every way is boring. Well lets just think about that for a minute. If you have 4 perfect red roses in a bouquet with one pink rose in the center it is generally the one that is different that draws your attention even if its imperfect.  Perfection can be very boring.

But what about striving to be the best you that you can be? That’s a different story. People can be their best without being perfect and sometimes your best is better than someone else’s perfect.

How truly boring the world would be if everyone and everything was perfect. I think that everyone is less than perfect because I subscribe to the theory that there is truly no such thing as true Perfection.  So just be the best you that you can be, and do the best that you can do and you will be an awesome imperfect YOU!

This Weeks Word To Ponder Is Tenacity…

Do you ever wonder why some people achieve success while others who are equally talented don’t? I’m sure there are many reasons but I think that perhaps  one of the most important and consistent is that they are blessed with a healthy does of tenacity. What exactly is tenacity?  According to Dictionary.com tenacity is the quality of being tenacious, or of holding fast: persistence. In other words they simply refuse to give up. One of my favorite quotes about tenacity is by Amelia Earhart – “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.”

This Weeks Word To Ponder Is Trust…

Trust is one of life’s tricky trails.  It can be extremely strong or extremely fragile. It can appear to be a straight and narrow trail or a twisted trail. Sometimes the biggest decision you have to make in a relationship is whether you can trust the other person or people in the relationship. Can you trust your partner, or not? Can you trust your family, or not? Can you trust your friends, or not? Can you trust your employer, or not? It’s an extremely important decision that often is never made in some relationships.  Ultimately, it ends up being a judgement call so the most important person you may need to trust is yourself and hope that you can rely on your own judgement.

Very early in my writing career I decided with very little difficulty what I’d use as my tag line because I knew why I wanted to write. I aspired to inspire people to improve and enhance their lives. This Weeks Word To Ponder Is Optimism..

When you think about the future do you always envision a bright, happy successful life; or do you envision being stuck by inertia in a less than satisfying life? Hopefully, you are filled with Optimism  and you have goals and visions of a successful life. Optimism is the fuel that moves people forward and creates the energy and drive that is needed to reach your  highest level of success in life. Optimism is defined as a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome that is possible.  It would see that an optimistic point of view would be a significant driving force to motivate forward motion toward any goal a person envisions.

Dancing As Fast As I Can …

Dancing As Fast As I Can
“I Really Am Dancing As Fast As I Can!” Author – Kate Woods – How fast can you dance…?

How Long Can You Dance?

How long can a person keep up the pace that it takes to keep dancing through the difficulties of life and its many relationships? Are you metaphorically dancing through raindrops; or dancing in the sweltering sun trying to get your daily to do list done?

How Fast Can You Dance?

People can only dance to any pace or any music for so long before they realize that they’re tired and they just might want to stop and yell out “I’m dancing as fast as I can”. If you feel that way, maybe it’s time to stop momentarily and to regroup. Stop dancing to the imaginary background music of your life for awhile or change it to a different beat, or a different pace. It can be a difficult thing to do but if you can’t keep dancing faster and faster, perhaps its time to consider if stopping or changing the pace and the focus of your life is an option.

Sometimes You Need a Break

Actual dancing is a great way to express your inner self; and a great way to exercise, and an excellent emotional outlet for stress and anxiety. But a person may need a break even from something as beneficial as dancing. It can be exhausting to keep pushing yourself if you need a break. Just like life, too much of anything can be exhausting and demoralizing when you feel like no matter how fast you dance, or how much you work to reach any goal, or how much you do everyday, sometimes you just can’t keep up with all that life demands of you.

How much can you accomplish in an hour, in a day, or longer? How many problems can you solve without running out of solutions? So if you’re doing as much as you can do, and people still keep expecting more and more from you, perhaps it’s just time to realize that you’re dancing as fast as you can to the imaginary music always playing in the background of your life.

Set Your Own Tempo And Dance To It’s Music

Sometimes in a relationship of any kind it’s difficult to agree on choices of music or the pace of a relationship and that applies to relationships with others or your own relationship with yourself. You can turn that make-believe music, that’s setting your pace, off for a while so you can focus on what you really want to come next. Then you can decide what kind of music you want playing in the background to set the beat of your steps and moves as you dance forward to the music that you choose and that you love. Remember, the most important musical beat you should hear and follow is the beat of your own heart. Listen to it, hear it and dance to its beat, as it sets your tempo and then follow it and Dance To The  Music.

Life Is Not An Episode of Dancing With The Stars…

Life is not an episode of  Dancing With The Stars.  In real life when the music stops there are many things to do besides preparing for the next episode. In life the episodes have no breaks in between them – each episode runs into the next one and sometimes the music stops but you still have to keep moving.  So choose the music that moves you, soothes you, amuses you, motivates you and inspires you and Keep On Dancing… to your own pace – as the little voice in you head speaks to you and says –

“I REALLY AM DANCING AS FAST AS I CAN!”
