“Once upon a time, many, many years ago, there was this amazing concept that was a part of the everyday magic of everyday people – RESPECT. As a general rule people treated other people with Respect. Respect is just one word – just seven letters – but respect has more power than a tornado a hurricane, or any cataclysmic event. What does that word mean? R-E-S-P-E-C-T is more than the title of a song by Aretha Franklin! Those of us who like to refer to ourselves as Writers are also often observers – people watchers – and extremely aware of how people treat other people. According to Dictionary.com Respect is esteemfor, orasenseoftheworthorexcellenceofaperson, apersonalqualityorability, orsomethingconsideredasamanifestationofapersonalqualityorability. Sadly, it is a concept often confused with fear. Respect is earned by being a good person and by doing good things. Respect is reciprocal – you give it to receive it. It should not be taken lightly. It is not something that one is entitled to by virtue of your name, where you live, how much money you have, or how much power you have to manipulate others. It is not even earned by position or title. It is earned by Actions and Words that should be used to enhance the greater good of the world that we all live in! It is a powerful emotional force that can change your world, and the world of others around you. In order to receive respect you must show respect and the concept of respect should not be confused with the concept of power. To quote another memorable song – WE ARE THE WORLD – the choices made by each and every person in it create the colors and the quality of the mural we all live in!”
Until next time, have a warm heart but be COOL! Be happy, be well, and be the best you that you can be!
