Zen Proverbs – Journeys & Paths … Get Your Zen On…

Life Is A Journey

“Life is a journey with no guarantees, no absolutes, no sure things, and no perfection; but it does have opportunities and choices. Its path leads through good relationships, bad relationships, pain and joy. There is no guarantee you will not experience pain by hiding from all that life has to offer because life’s journey has no guarantees. Those with adventurous spirits will choose to push through the obstacles on the journey – realizing that they are part of the journey. While those ruled by fear will make excuses to allow the obstacles to end their quest. Each of us must choose whether to be defeated by obstacles or to continue on, always moving toward their destination – their very own personal version of Happily Ever After.”

The Obstacle Is The Path

There is a well known Zen Proverb that states “The Obstacle is the Path”. That can be a little confusing when you first read it; but after dwelling on it I realized that the path you take to go over or around or under or through an obstacle is still part of the path. Life’s journey and paths sometimes include obstacles but that doesn’t mean you can’t reach your goals and your destinations.

Zen Proverbs

Zen Proverbs are very thought provoking and for that reason some people completely ignore them, but they do generally have powerful messages when you take the time to think them through. So – when you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed by obstacles perhaps it’s a good time to read a few Zen Proverbs or the A to Zen of Life by the Dalai Lama.

Here are a few other Zen Proverbs  I have found helpful.

•Be master of mind rather than mastered by mind.

•From the withered tree, a flower blooms.

•It takes a wise man to learn from his mistakes, but an even wiser man to learn from others.

•No snowflake ever falls in the wrong place.

•Sit, walk, or run, but don’t wobble.

•To know and not do is not yet to know.

•If the problem has a solution, worrying is pointless, in the end the problem will be solved. If the problem has no solution, there is no reason to worry, because it can’t be solved.

•Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought.

•To follow the path, look to the master, follow the master, walk with the master, see through the master, become the master.

•A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Lao Tzu.
